Bryan Obara
I have always been a gardener fascinated by the beauty and benefits of meadow landscapes. It all started with the perennial catalogs I would peruse with my grandmother. And as a practicing landscape architect, I have come to understand the challenges that face designers in implementing meadows across multiple scales and contexts.
The truth is that establishing a meadow from seed requires significant preparation, patience, and maintenance over a 3-year period…often resulting in failed projects or frustrated clients. Nursery-grown plants provide immediate impact with mature plants, but come at a high financial and environmental cost. Meadow sod™ fills this gap by providing immediate impact and benefit at a fraction of the cost of containerized plants. BOLD Meadows ensures the success of its meadows through a comprehensive suite of services including meadow design, installation, and maintenance.

Our Services
Design.
A plan is the first step to establishing your meadow sod. We provide a complimentary site assessment to review sun, moisture, soil, and invasive weed presence, while also discussing considerations on location, size, color palette, and management.
Install.
After establishing a design plan, we will schedule your installation within the spring and fall growing seasons to ensure a successful establishment. If you order in the winter– we’ll get you scheduled first thing the following spring. We provide clearing and removal of existing sod, groundcovers, or small shrubs, followed by any soil amendments if required. Don’t worry - you won’t see bare dirt for long! We lay sod within a couple of days of the soil being exposed to protect it from erosion. Watering is critical within the first two weeks until the roots find their way, so we provide a temporary irrigation system if an existing one is not in place.
Maintain.
While there is no such thing as a no-maintenance landscape, our maintenance services come at a fraction of traditional lawn maintenance services– requiring 80% fewer site visits. This is because our meadow species have been carefully selected for their low-growing stature, drought tolerance, low maintenance, and suitability to grow together. Over time, your meadow will evolve as some species thrive over others, but we’ll be there to make adjustments as you see fit.
